
Guillermo Cardon
Policy Officer/Research Programme Officer
Guillermo Cardon works since January 2022 as Policy Officer/Research Programme Officer in Unit F2 Research and Innovation of the Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development of the European Commission. He works on EU-Africa cooperation in agricultural research and innovation, and is co-chair of the AU-EU Working Group on Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture (FNSSA) of the High Level Policy Dialogue (HLPD) on Science, Technology and Innovation. He is also member of the Secretariat of the Mission “A Soil Deal for Europe”. He studied agronomy and earned a doctoral degree in biology, with specialization in plant molecular genetics. He worked as a researcher in the public and private sector for over ten years before joining the European Commission in July 2001, to work initially as a Research Programme Officer for plant production systems, plant genetics, genomics and biotechnology at the Directorate General for Research and Innovation. Before joining DG AGRI he also worked for 13 years in the Directorate General for Health and Food Safety as Policy Officer for plant health and for food safety.
